The 2025 Oscar nominations have arrived. This year’s Academy Awards offer a few interesting firsts; Emilia Pérez star Karla Sofía Gascón made history as the first trans actress to be nominated for Lead Actress, while Timothée Chalamet (our 2024 Film Performer of the Year) became the youngest two-time Lead Actor nominee since the one and only James Dean.
Other big winners include The Brutalist and audience favorite Wicked, which yielded nominations for both its stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Elsewhere, a number of pleasant surprises (Nickel Boys in Best Picture!) and head-scratching snubs (the Challengers shutout) confirm that The Academy will always remain somewhat difficult to pin down.
