Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr showcased amazing chemistry as Pepper Potts and Tony Stark on screen in the Iron Man and Avengers movies. A recent interview revealed how Paltrow stopped learning her lines during the Marvel movie because of RDJ. While the Oppenheimer star addressed his MCU return, the actress reminisced about their time on the first film’s set. Scroll below to know more.
The Iron Man movie was first released in 2008. Gwyneth and RDJ have developed an amazing bond behind the screen. Even when Joss Whedon did not want to cast Paltrow in the 2012 film The Avengers, RDJ requested the studio to cast her for the growth of his character as Tony Stark. They have created a lot of sweet moments in the MCU.
According to Esquire, Gwyneth Paltrow revealed how Robert Downey Jr would throw out the script, which eventually led the actress to stop learning the lines. The actress recalled, “There would be this process of [director] Jon Favreau and Robert and I going into Jon’s trailer in the morning and Robert being like, ‘I’m not f*cking saying these lines’ and throwing them out.”
She added, “And then live improv-ing either in the trailer or on the set. I think in order for something to feel alive for Robert, it has to feel fresh, and he makes it fresh by making it feel like it was just invented. So many of those famous lines were written 10 minutes before we said them.”
Previously, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Iron Man star Jeff Bridges once revealed he, Jon, and RDJ changed the script. They even rehearsed it, but Marvel not only rejected it, the studio even threw out their script.
Pepper Potts and Tony Stark fans still want to see the couple again in the MCU movies. For the unversed, Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow were last seen in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Meanwhile, Robert Downey Jr told Esquire he would happily play Iron Man if he could. He said the role chose him, and it is an integral part of his DNA.
