Marvel Studios has shared a look at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The first official trailer was unveiled Thursday during the kickoff of the Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo, Brazil. The much-anticipated sequel is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 5, 2023, nearly a decade after the first installment was released. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 was an undeniable commercial success, earning more than $773 million at the global box office. Its 2017 sequel was an even bigger hit, as it racked in over $800 million worldwide.
GOTG3 will mark the conclusion of the James Gunn-written/directed trilogy, and will fall under Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The filmmaker spoke about the project during a January interview with Hero Nation, sharing a few details on what he had in store.
“It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be,” said Gunn, who also wrote Guardians 3. “I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best. I’m aware that the third film in most trilogies sucks; not alway.”
The movie feature a number of returning stars including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. Will Poulter, Nico Santos, and Borat 2 breakout Maria Bakalova joined the cast for the final installment.
MCU’s Phase 5 will kick off in February with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The phase will also include The Marvels, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever marked the final big-screen release in Phase 4 and has earned more than $675 million worldwide since its premiere on Nov. 11.
