Viral Japanese ‘salarywoman’ joins YouTube after being compared to Sydney Sweeney

A Japanese woman is going viral on social media and she’s decided to join YouTube amid her newfound fame.

In July, X users began sharing a photo of ‘salarywoman’ SAO, an officer worker who does modeling as a side gig.

The photo showed SAO in business attire against a wall and gained a lot of traction after a post put the Japanese model next to Sydney Sweeney, who just starred in an ultra viral yet controversial American Eagle jeans commercial.

Captioned, ‘which way western man,’ the post has been viewed over 35M times, with users debating which of the models they prefer.

The virality has resulted in many fans following SAO, who is taking advantage of her popularity by branching out to making videos, starting with a YouTube Short.

Who is SAO? Viral Japanese salarywoman takes over X

In a post on X, SAO addressed her fans, explaining that she works in an office during the day and does side gigs as a model and actress.

“Until earlier this year, I was part of an idol group,” she revealed. “I’ve read all your warm messages. Thank you so much for all the love and support.”

She uploaded a YouTube Short on July 29, discussing how her face has been spread across the internet.

“I decided to start a YouTube Channel. My first video might be a Q&A style one. But, if there’s not enough interest, I might just give up,” SAO warned.

“Thanks for being here and I’m excited to start this journey with you.”

As of writing, SAO’s channel has amassed just under 3,000 subscribers, so we’ll have to see what she decides to do once enough time has passed and if she continues to be a viral meme on social media.
