Greg Daniels’ long-gestating Office spinoff series is finally coming together.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) and Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, White House Plumbers) are the first two actors who’ve been cast in the series.
Daniels, who co-created the US version of The Office, has been adamant that the forthcoming series is a spinoff, and not a reboot, though it will exist in the same universe as the original series.
“I don’t like to think of anything as a reboot,” Daniels previously explained. “Because I feel like we ended that story beautifully. The characters had closure. I would never want to redo that same show with a different cast, because I think we got the luckiest cast, the best cast ever, in TV, to do that show. So the notion of a reboot is not of interest.”
Impacciatore is perhaps best known for playing Valentina in the second season of HBO’s The White Lotus. Gleeson, the son of actor Brendan Gleeson, notably played General Armitage Hux in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and also appeared in films such as Ex Machina and The Revenant. More recently, he’s starred on televisions series including White House Plumbers and The Patient, which incidentally co-starred The Office’s Steve Carell.
Production on The Office spinoff could begin later this year.
