Ridley Scott’s 2023 epic Napoleon just got bigger. Napoleon: The Director’s Cut is now available to stream on Apple TV+ with 48 more minutes of footage, bringing the final runtime to a wild 270 minutes.
Napoleon arrived in theaters in November 2023, but the Joaquin Phoenix-led film received mixed reviews, and the project’s enormous budget failed to turn a profit with box office revenue. The movie, which centered on the military officer and his wife Josephine (Vanessa Kirby) fared a bit better during awards season, earning three Oscar nominations in production categories.
In an interview last year, the acclaimed director teased his vision for a “fantastic” cut that featured “more of Josephine’s life before she meets Napoleon.” All four-and-a-half hours have now arrived on Apple TV+.
Phoenix, who took on the titular role, is currently gearing up for the October release of Joker: Folie à Deux. His Napoleon co-star, Vanessa Kirby, recently appeared at San Diego Comic-Con to offer some first looks at the upcoming Fantastic Four film, in which she’ll play Sue Storm.
Scott recently unveiled the trailer for Gladiator II, set to arrive 24 years after the Oscar-winning original on November 22nd, 2024. The sequel stars Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.
