Josh Brolin, fired up for his upcoming film, Dune: Part Two’s theatrical release, has made the Marvel fans quandary with his cryptic response to a Deadpool & Wolverine question. He is one of those actors who has appeared in dual roles in the Marvel movies as part of the film’s central storyline. He was MCU’s big baddie Thanos, and he played the role of Cable in Deadpool 2.
The Marvel movies not only give the actors ample exposure but also prove to benefit them financially. RDJ is among the highest-paid actors ever, earning around $435 million from his Marvel role as Iron Man. This Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led film is the most anticipated movie of this year and the only MCU film coming out. A lot depends on it, especially after the disappointing box office results MCU has been facing for quite some time.
In 2023, only Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 got a positive reception at the box office. The Marvel sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel became one of the lowest-earning MCU movies ever, whereas the prequel made around $1 billion at the worldwide box office. In the first teaser of the upcoming Shawn Levy directorial, we saw OG X-Men character Pyro returning, and the original actor will be seen in that part.
How can Marvel bring Josh Brolin’s Cable into the MCU, as he already appeared as Thanos?
The MCU is exploring the multiverse; we saw it clearly in Doctor Strange. Hence, the inclusion of Hugh’s Wolverine became easy. Similarly, bringing back Josh Brolin in Deadpool & Wolverine will not be a problem, but the question remains: Which character – Thanos or Cable? Technically, he can return as both since Thanos was created through heavy VFX; hence, Josh is unrecognizable underneath that.
Josh Brolin recently sat for an interview with Collider, where interviewer Steve Weintraub dropped a question about Deadpool & Wolverine. He asked, “I have to start with this one. Are you in Deadpool 3, and if not, why?” The Avengers: Endgame actor dropped a cryptic response, which might leave everyone in a puzzle.
He said, “No. I don’t know. Because Ryan [Reynolds] doesn’t like me? I don’t know… I don’t know.” But after taking a pause, he added, “Maybe.” What does this mean? Will he be there in Deadpool & Wolverine? Will he appear as Cable? Or as Thanos? Is he just messing with the fans? We won’t know until the film comes out in the theatres.
A few days back, the actor reacted to Thanos’ MCU return and said he was aware of the rumors. He told Comicbook, “You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back.” However, it might be in the animated series What If…? He might return as part of the voice cast.
On the work front, Josh Brolin’s Dune: Part Two will be released on March 1, and Deadpool & Wolverine will arrive on big screens on July 26, 2024.
