All good things come to an end. And Ted Lasso was a good thing—a very good thing (usually). The show touched many people at a time when some levity and heart were seriously necessary. Ted Lasso left us all with some excellent and inspirational catchphrases that really helped us all to believe. But having aired the final episode of season three, it seems like it’s time to say goodbye to Ted Lasso. Although the season three finale hasn’t actually been officially called the last episode of Ted Lasso, it sure does seem like a series finale to viewers and cast alike. If Ted Lasso is over now that season three has ended, well, we were glad to know it.
Brett Goldstein took to Instagram to say a proper-sounding goodbye to the show. That feels like some good evidence that Ted Lasso season three is its final season. He posted some emotional images and offered, “Ted Lasso was a truly magical experience. A show about love, made with love, by the funniest, most beautiful and kindest people on the planet. From all the writers, to every member of the crew to every single actor, no matter how small their part, to all the post production team, everyone brought their A game and their warmth to the making of Ted Lasso. I will miss getting to live in that world with them.”
Earlier in the year, Jason Sudeikis also discussed whether season three was the ending of Ted Lasso. He said, “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell. The fact that folks will want more and are curious beyond more than what they don’t even know yet—that being Season 3—it’s flattering. Maybe by May 31, once all 12 episodes of the season [have been released], they’re like, ‘Man, you know what, we get it, we’re fine. We don’t need anymore, we got it.’ But until that time comes, I will appreciate the curiosity beyond what we’ve come up with so far.”
As we know, it could happen. Since season three has not officially been declared the final season of Ted Lasso, technically Ted Lasso has not yet ended. However, given the events of the episode and all the storylines tied it up, it seems like a return to Ted Lasso will be in spinoff form from here on out. Sudeikis notes, “I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories.”
Until we get to dive back in, we’ll just remember to always be a goldfish.
