Luckily for the stars of Madame Web, now that the film is finally playing in movie theaters, that means the press tour is over and they can stop talking about it. And given the widely negative response to the project, they’re likely giddy about that fact.
As it turns out, Madame Web was not only a massive failure but apparently a pain to make, as star Sydney Sweeney recently revealed that her wig made her throw up and her body “shut down.”
“I had a wig, so it was a whole other process. You have to wrap the wig, then glue the wig down, then style the wig,” Sweeney said in an interview with Cosmopolitan UK. “And that wig was so hot we were filming in Boston in the middle of the summer.”
“It was one of the hottest days, and we were in the middle of filming, and I go, ‘One second,’ and I turn around, and I just started throwing up, and then I turn back, and I go, ‘We’re all good. We can keep going.’ I was overheating. My body was shutting down.”
Sweeney features in Madame Web as Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman and stars in the film alongside Dakota Johnson, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Emma Roberts, and Adam Scott.
Luckily for Sweeney, despite Madame Web embarrassingly bombing, the 26-year-old is still on a rocket ship to the top of Hollywood’s A-list. Her most recent film prior to Madame Web, Anyone But You, for example, has grossed over $200 million at the global box office. It was also recently announced that Sweeney will be hosting Saturday Night Live for the first time on March 2.
Next up for Sweeney will be the psychological horror film Immaculate, which she produced and stars in alongside The White Lotus season two breakout Simona Tabasco. Immaculate will be released in movie theaters on March 22.
