The second installment of Wicked’s title has been recently revealed while the people are still engulfed in the first film’s magic. The movie is still astonishing with its dominating presence and keeps setting new records daily. It has now surpassed the global total of Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway starrer Les Misérables’ worldwide collection. Scroll below for the deets.

Les Misérables is a 2012 epic period musical movie directed by Tom Hooper based on the stage musical of the same name. It features an ensemble cast led by Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen. The supporting cast includes Samantha Barks, Aaron Tveit, and Daniel Huttlestone. The movie is set in France during the early 19th century, and Anne Hathaway won the Oscar for her performance in a supporting role.

Les Misérables collected $149.26 million in the US and $293.49 million overseas. The film’s worldwide total was $442.75 million against a price tag of $61 million. It was reportedly the second highest-grossing musical adaptation of all time at the global box office. Its title has been taken away by Wicked’s latest worldwide cume.

According to Luiz Fernando’s report, Wicked’s weekend actuals for overseas came in slightly higher than previously reported. It collected $21.7 million on its fourth weekend, experiencing a drop of only 19.3% from last weekend. The movie’s overseas cume has reached $166.1 million over 78 markets, and allied with its $359.2 million domestic gross, the musical fantasy not only crossed the $500 million mark but also bested Les Misérables’ $442.8 million worldwide collection.

The musical fantasy’s global cume stands at $525.3 million, making it the second highest-grossing musical adaptation of all time at the worldwide box office. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s film is aiming for a worldwide run of $720-$750 million; however, this will also depend on how it performs in Japan.

Wicked, starring Ariana Grande, will soon surpass Kung Fu Panda 4‘s $547.68 million global haul to become the seventh highest-grossing film of the year. It was released on November 22.
