Of the many star-studded cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds is mourning one appearance that ended up on the cutting room floor.
The actor revealed Friday that his friend and Wrexham AFC co-owner Rob McElhenney had a small role in the MCU crossover that was ultimately cut from the final product, which has become the biggest R-rated movie worldwide.
“So, @robmcelhenney kindly did a cameo in D&W,” he wrote on Threads. “The sequence wasn’t working and Rob is why it stayed in the cut for so long. Even under a TVA mask, you can feel him smoldering with a raw, untapped reservoir of intensity. Don’t get me started on Wrexham. I wouldn’t know a love like that if it weren’t for Rob.
“It feels good when friends are nearby. And even though I’m mortified he flew to London for me, I’m grateful my friend on that set. Rob shows up for people. It’s why he’s the absolute best,” added Reynolds.
He note with an asterisk in another post, “Even as he begged for his life before Alioth snatched his unsuspecting body into the air, swallowing him whole, eventually digesting and converting him into Alioth-poo. RIP TVA Soldier.”
Reynolds and McElhenney star together on the FX reality series Welcome to Wrexham, which follows the pair as they run the professional football club.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds and Hugh Jackman join forces as the eponymous duo to help the Time Variance Authority (TVA) safeguard the multiverse from an existential threat posed by Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin).
Despite McElhenney’s absence, the movie was still stacked with cameos from Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Garner, Chris Evans, Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively.
Since premiering last month, Deadpool & Wolverine has broken numerous box office records,
