Ryan Gosling to Star in Shawn Levy's Star Wars Movie: Report

Hey girl, Ryan Gosling might be going to a galaxy far, far away. The A-list actor is reportedly in talks to star in the Star Wars movie currently being developed by Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy has been developing his take on Star Wars since 2022, which is said to be a stand-alone movie that will not be a part of the Skywalker Saga. There’s no confirmation on what time period during which it might be set, which means it could take place anywhere from the earliest days of the Galactic Republic to the aftermath of The Battle of Exegol.

Levy is currently enjoying the success that came from partnering with another Hollywood Ryan, as the Reynolds-starring Deadpool & Wolverine was one of 2024’s biggest success stories, having amassed over $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the top R-rated earner of all time. At one point, Levy was rumored to be taking over directing duties on Avengers 5, a job which eventually went to Anthony and Joe Russo.

Despite last year’s The Fall Guy not being a global box office success, Gosling stands as one of Hollywood’s most high-profile stars, with a total of three Oscar nominations under his belt. He recently wrapped shooting another space adventure, Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s adaptation of Project Hail Mary.

For the past few years, the Star Wars universe has stuck to the small screen with original series like The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew debuting directly to Disney+ — the next slated movie adventure is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to hit theaters on May 22nd, 2026. Actually, Gosling’s casting is notably not the most unexpected news to come from the Star Wars universe lately. That honor belongs to the announcement that Jeremy Allen White will be playing Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta in the upcoming Jon Favreau-directed film.
