Someone has purchased a massive 550lb Twitter bird logo sign from an auction for an absolutely baffling amount of money.
Not long after Elon Musk purchased Twitter back in October 2022, he began work on rebranding the social media platform to X.
Rebranding the site meant all of Twitter’s iconic bird logos had to be removed from its San Fransico headquarters, with much of it being auctioned off in 2023.
Not much has been shared about where the iconic items went after the initial auction but on Friday, March 21, the whereabouts of one of Twitter’s biggest signs was finally revealed.
550lb Twitter bird logo sells for $35,000
According to San Francisco news publication Kron 4, the 550lb Twitter bird logo sign that was once displayed at its headquarters in San Francisco has been sold for nearly $35,000.
It was acquired by RR Auctions during the initial Twitter auction in 2023 and has sat in its warehouse ever since. A spokesperson for the company described the sign as “not merely office decor” but a “significant piece of social media history.”
“This Twitter sign is more than a massive piece of memorabilia: it’s a symbol of how fast our world is changing,” they said. “Getting your hands on something like this means owning a piece of the era that reshaped our global communications landscape.”
RR Auctions shared a post on YouTube showing off the iconic bird logo sign while it was still attached to the building where it stayed from 2012 until it was removed in 2023.
That wasn’t the only piece of tech memorabilia that sold during the RR Auction, either. Kron reports that two different checks signed by Apple’s Steve Jobs sold for $112k and $62k, as well as an original Apple-1 computer for a staggering $375,000 and a sealed first-generation iPhone for $87k.
