Former NSYNC frontman Justin Timberlake was arrested on Long Island on the night of Monday, June 17 for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
The arrest took place in Sag Harbor, New York, which is in the Hamptons. Timerblake appeared before a judge around 9:30 a.m. EST on Tuesday, June 18.
In the hours following Timberlake’s arrest, his mugshot was released publicly, showing the 43-year-old actor and pop star looking glassy-eyed. Given Timberlake’s fame, the photo was instantly turned into a meme.
“Liking every post with a photo of Justin Timberlake in handcuffs,” said a viral tweet with a video of a row of elderly people smashing the spin button on slot machines.
“I can’t imagine having Justin Timberlake money and driving drunk I wouldn’t even drive sober lmao,” said another popular post.
Later this month, Timberlake is scheduled to perform a duo of shows at Madison Square Garden on June 25 and June 26. He’s also dated to appear in court on July 26, which is when he’s also supposed to be in Poland for a pair of concerts.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office released the following statement about the arrest:
“On June 18, 2024, Justin Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor for Driving While Intoxicated. He was arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and released on his own recognizance. His next court date is a virtual appearance in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court scheduled for July 26, 2024. At this time, we have no further comment.”
Timberlake’s attorney Ed Burke also released a statement regarding the incident, saying Timberlake refused a breathalyzer.
“The charge was a single count because he refused the breath test. Mr. Timberlake was also charged with two other court citations, running a stop sign and not traveling in the correct traffic lane.”
Earlier this year, Timberlake released his fifth solo studio album, Everything I Thought It Was. He also starred in the 2023 Netflix film Reptile alongside Benicio del Toro and Alicia Silverstone.
Timberlake’s The Forget The World Tomorrow tour is set to kick off on Friday, June 21 in Chicago, and take him across both Europe and America until December.
