Interstellar Receiving IMAX Re-Release for 10th Anniversary

Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar is receiving an IMAX re-release for its 10th anniversary.

Interstellar will be shown in Nolan’s preferred IMAX 70mm format and digital screens on December 6th.

Plans for the film’s IMAX re-release were first announced during CinemaCon earlier this year, with a target release date of September. However, per Variety, Paramount pushed the release date to December 6th to align with a planned home entertainment relaunch. It was falsely rumored online that the release had been postponed because Paramount accidentally destroyed 70mm copies of the film.

Last summer, Nolan explained the advantages of IMAX 70mm in an interview with The Associated Press, saying the format was the “best possible experience” to take in future Best Picture winner Oppenheimer due to its “unparalleled” sharpness, clarity, and depth of image.

Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain, Interstellar was directed by Nolan, who penned the film with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Set in a dystopian future where astronauts travel across space to find humanity a new home, the movie earned more than $700 million in the global box office. It was nominated for five Oscars, taking home the award for Best Visual Effects.

Interstellar is also available to purchase on 4K UHD and Blu-ray.
