Amazon MGM Studios clearly knew what they were doing when they decided to release Dwayne Johnson’s Red One theatrically. Although it was originally meant to be released online only, plans changed due to the delays. However, this has been a boon in disguise, as the film is hanging in there well despite mixed reviews. The Rock’s popularity surely has a big role to play in it. It is now approaching its first major milestone at the US box office. Scroll below for the deets.
The movie has arrived on its streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video, ahead of Christmas so everyone can enjoy this Holiday-themed comedy-action flick. The film also features Chris Evans as a hacker who teams up with The Rock’s Cal to find the kidnapped Santa Claus around Christmas. It recently crossed the worldwide collection of Leonardo DiCaprio starrer Killers of the Flower Moon.
Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans starrer Red One Collected a solid $4.26 million on its 5th weekend in the United States. It was playing in 3,003 locations and has therefore reached a $92.46 million cume in North America. The movie is around $8 million away from hitting the $100 million mark in the United States. According to BoxOfficeReport.com, the comedy-action flick collected $1.205 million on Friday; on Saturday, it raked in $1.925 million, and another $1.126 million on Sunday.
It will soon surpass The Fall Guy‘s domestic total of $92,900,355. Red One is inches away from crossing that number. The movie collected $82.60 million overseas and allied with the domestic cume, The Rock’s film’s global cume has reached $175.06 million. There is a huge difference in the film’s ratings by critics and the audience.
The critics gave the movie only 30%, but it seems the audience is enjoying it a little too much, as they have rated it 91%. The audience says, “Led by The Rock, the entire ensemble delivers ample servings of naughty and nice that may leave you humming, ‘Oh what fun it is to ride in a Red One open sleigh.’”
Red One was released on November 15.
