During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, up and coming pop star Tate McRae revealed how she recruited Sydney Sweeney to record a little something for her new album So Close To What. According to McRae, her pilates partner introduced the pair — everyone say “Thank you, Glen Powell!”.

Glen Powell, whose been rocketing to the top of Hollywood’s A-list in the last couple of years, knows Sydney Sweeney from co-starring with her in the hit 2023 rom-com Anyone But You, which helped elevate both their careers as it made over $220 million at the global box office against just a $25 million budget.

McRae told Fallon that after running into Sydney Sweeney at Rockefeller Center last year, Powell, whom she does pilates with, connected the two.

“Well, okay, it’s crazy because… my episode that I was on last year, she was doing the couch here, so that’s when we first saw each other in the hall. And then Glen Powell, who I do Pilates with sometimes, he connected us. Sydney was such a legend. She sent me like 10 versions of this little voice-memo thing. It was like three days before the release, and she was the absolute best for doing it. So it was so cool.”

Hand up: I don’t know a single song by Tate McRae but she seems to pop up on social media a lot because, well… you can go to her Instagram page and figure it out. That said, I didn’t know who Sabrina Carpenter was a year ago and now she was the opening act of the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary a couple weeks ago.

This year, Powell will be seen starring in a remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger film The Running Man, which will be directed by Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver filmmaker Edgar Wright. His Hulu series Chad Powers, based on the character created by Eli Manning, will likely also be released this year.

As for Sweeney, she’s got a Christy Martin biopic set to release this year and is also in production on the Paul Feig film The Housemaid, which is based on the best-selling novel of the same name and also stars Amanda Seyfried.
