PORTSMOUTH locals have done a double take to see Hollywood A-lister Ryan Gosling filming on the pier.
The Barbie actor has been in Southsea filming his new movie, the science fiction film Project Hail Mary.
Southsea pier has been transformed into a film set with cameras and lights and the town is currently buzzing with excitement.
Based on the book by Andy Weir, the story focuses on the character of Ryland Grace who wakes up from a coma with amnesia.
But slowly he remembers that he’s been sent on a mission to reverse a solar dimming event that could lead to the extinction of the human race.
The film which is due to be released in 2026, also stars German actress Sandra Huller, fresh from her Oscar-nominated turn in Anatomy of a Fall.
Gosling who began his career aged 12 on Disney’s The Micky Mouse Club alongside popstars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake, is currently Hollywood’s hottest actor.
The Canadian-born star gained mainstream recognition with 2004’s The Notebook and he has since landed a number of high profile movie roles.
His biggest credits include Drive, The Ides of March, The Place Beyond the Pines, The Big Short and La La Land.
Starring opposite Emma Stone, La La Land brought Ryan him critical acclaim, with the musical landing him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor.
The 43-year-old also picked up as Oscar nomination for his role in the Barbie film, but was outspoken in his criticism of the academy for failing to nominate his co-star Margot Robbie who played the title role and the Greta Gerwig, the film’s director.

The couple have two daughters, Esmeralda (born September 12, 2014) and Amada (born April 29, 2016).
