TV’s biggest night is finally here.
The 75th Annual Emmy Awards went down a little a bit late this year — honoring achievements in prime time television from June 1, 2022, through May 31, 2023 — following delays from the Hollywood Strike, which pushed them from last fall to early 2024.
Hosted by Anthony Anderson and airing on Fox, this year’s event included a few shocks, surprises and unscripted moments. Check out all the highlights below!

After an opening number riffing on old sitcom theme songs like Good Times and The Facts of Life — and featuring a cameo from Travis Barker on the drums — the host revealed how things would be a little different this year. Instead of having music play off winners, Anthony recruited his own mom to scare people off stage.
“Tonight my mama, she’s going to be the Emmy’s playoff mama. When you see my mama coming, you thank Jesus and your family and you wrap it up!” he joked, before she stood up in the audience and screamed, “Shut up, that’s enough! I wanna go to the after party, hurry up!”
It wasn’t long until she made good on her job … and ticked off some viewers in the process.

Christina Applegate was the first presenter of the night, walking out on stage with a cane amid her battle with MS. As she got to the podium, the entire audience gave her a standing ovation, as the Dead to Me actress started to get emotional.
She then cracked the perfect joke, saying, “You’re totally shaming me and my disability by standing up. Body not by Ozempic.:
From there, she reflected on her most famous roles — including Dead to Me, Married … with Children and Samantha Who — before getting faux emotional about her debut as a baby on Days of My Lives.
She then presented the award for Best Supporting Actress in a comedy, which was awarded to Ayo Edebiri.
Quinta Brunson Wins Big
Quinta Brunson just became the second Black actress in Emmys history to win Lead in the Comedy category, 42 years after Isabel Sanford won for The Jefferson. Icon!!!

Quinta Brunson from Abbott Elementary won her first acting Emmy at Monday’s event, taking home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series after previously winning outstanding writing for the show’s pilot.
She was clearly overcome with emotion once she got on stage, after being given the award by the legendary Carol Burnett.
“The Carol Burnett of it all,” she said through tears. “Thank you so much … I am so happy to be able to live my dream and act out comedy. I just love comedy so much. I am so happy to be able to get this.”
“I didn’t prepare anything because I just didn’t think,” she continued, before trailing off. “I love my mom, my dad, my sisters, my brothers, my entire family so much. I love my husband, I love my cast, I love Abbott Elementary, thank you so much.”

Jennifer Coolidge brought her White Lotus winning streak to an end by picking up Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for the show’s second season.
After first putting down her trophy because it was too heavy, she thanked series creator Mike White “for giving me this opportunity to play this incredible character” — before telling the audience, “He says I’m definitely dead, so I’m going along with it.”
She went on to then “thank all the evil gays” out there, referencing her infamous quote on the show.
At that point, Anthony Anderson’s mom got to work, standing up while holding up a sign with a crossed out clock. “I love you baby, but, time,” she shouted from the audience, as Coolidge pushed back for just “one last thing.”
“I had a little dream in my little town and everyone said it was impractical and far-fetched, but it did happen after all. So don’t give up on you dream!” she shouted, before leaving the stage.
Pedro Pascal Said What?
“Kieran Culkin beat the sh*t out of me”

While presenting the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal continued his faux beef with Kieran Culkin.
Taking a moment to “make this about me,” Pascal said, “A lot of people have been asking about my arm. It’s actually my shoulder. And I think tonight is the perfect time to tell everyone that Kieran Culkin beat the s–t out of me.”
The camera then cut to Culkin in the audience, who was stone-faced … before finally cracking up laughing as Pascal read off the nominees.
Niecy Nash Thanks Herself

Another emotional moment came when Niecy Nash picked up the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her work in Dahmer.
“I’m a winner, baby!” she exclaimed as she took the stage, before thanking series creator Ryan Murphy, costar Evan Peters and everyone at Netflix behind the show. She also thanked her “better half,” Jessica Betts, for picking her up “when I was gutted from this work.”
“You know who else I want to thank? I want to thank me,” she then said, getting a huge response from the audience. “For believing in me and doing what they said I could not to. I want to say to myself in front of all these beautiful people, go on girl with your bad self. You did that! “
She went on to “accept this award on behalf of every Black and Brown woman who has gone unheard, yet over policed,” like the real-life Glenda Cleveland — who she played on Dahmer — as well as Sandra Bland and Breonna Taylor.
“As an artist, my jobs it to speak truth to power. And Baby, I’m gonna do it until the day I die,” she said. “Mama, I won!”
All the Reunions
To celebrate 75 years of television, the awards reunited some of biggest casts of all time — starting with Lorainne Bracco and Michael Imperioli inside a recreation of Bracco’s psychiatrist office from The Sopranos.
Up next were Tisha Campbell Martin Lawrence, Tichina Arnold, and Carl Anthony Payne II from Martin, again on a recreation of their set — as they called out the fact they never won a trophy themselves. “We should’ve won an Emmy during our run,” said Campbell … who was completely right.

From there, it was over to the titular bar from Cheers, as Ted Danson, Rhea Perlman, Kelsey Grammer, John Ratzenberger and George Wendt all hit the stage together … before Chandra Wilson, Justin Chambers, Ellen Pompeo, Katherine Heigl and James Pickens hit the stage in front of some medical equipment for a Grey’s Anatomy reunion.
It was Heigl who got the biggest laugh, as she pointed out how “there have been some changes over the years.”
All In the Family’s Rob Reiner Sally Struthers reunited to introduce the In Memoriam segment, while Calista Flockhart was joined by Greg Germann, Gil Bellows and Peter MacNicol to, of course, break into a dance number.

Paul Walter Hauser Raps

Picking up the trophy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his work on Black Bird, Paul Walter Hauser surprised everyone by rapping his acceptance speech.
“Thank you to the voters in the TV academy, thank you mom and dad, you nurtured what I had in me,” he began, before thanking the show’s creators, writers and costars.
“Dennis Lehane, Taron Egerton, your talent could move boulders. If I look tall, it’s because I’m standing on both of their shoulders,” he continued. “To Greg, Sepideh, Joe and Jake, your acting’s colossal, to the Rolex Ray Liotta, we’re down here wearing Fossils.”
He also made sure to call out his wife — “you make my heart strong and knees weak” — and Jesus, before walking off the stage.
Anthony Anderson Becomes the Rubber Man
While Dylan McDermott was supposed to reunite with American Horror Story costar Connie Britton at the Emmys, something must have fallen through — so McDermott reunited with the Rubber Man instead.
Only this version of the PVC-clad villain could also bust a dance move … and was uncovered to be host Anthony Anderson.
“It’s hard to breathe in these kinds of things. I don’t know how that dude did it in Pulp Fiction,” he then cracked — before adding, “I thought my butt was bigger until I put on this thing!”
Huge Wins for Beef

Both Steven Yeun and Ali Wong picked up acting awards for their work on Netflix’s Beef … and both were motional during their speeches. The show also picked up Outstanding Limited Series.
His voice cracking, Yeun thanked “a lot of people that looked out for me on my way to even get to be in this business,” as well as the cast and crew for the series. “I want to say thank you to Danny for teaching me that judgment and shame is a lonely place, but compassion and grace is where we can all meet,” he continued, referencing what he learned from his character.
Wong also thanked the whole cast and crew when she picked up her trophy, with her voice cracking too as she thanked her daughters for inspiring her. As she spoke, her boyfriend Bill Hader beamed in the audience.
An In Memoriam Full of Greats
With the delay of the awards, that meant an even longer In Memoriam tribute — encompassing everyone who’s sadly passed away since September 2022. And for those watching it home, it was a gut punch to see just how many great we’ve lost in that time.
Charlie Puth performed See You Again as names like Suzanne Somers, Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss, Paul Reubens, Barbra Walters, Leslie Jordan, Lance Reddick, Richard Roundtree, Angus Cloud and Treat Williams were shown on the screen.
The song then transitioned into the Friends theme song, before the tribute ended with a final slide of Matthew Perry.

Picking up his trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work on Succession, Kieran Culkin got choked up as he thanked his mom for “giving me life and a childhood, which was great, so thank you for that.”
He went on to thank his team, costars and crew on the show, before turning his attention to his wife, Jazz Charton.
“Thank you for sharing your life with me and giving me two amazing kids, Kinsey Sioux and Wilder Wold, I love you so many and so much,” he said, before concluding, “And, Jazz, I want more. You said maybe If I win!”
She looked shocked … we’ll see in time if he gets his wish!
Matty Matheson Takes the Mic
After The Bear won one of the night’s biggest awards, Outstanding Comedy Series, it was star and real life chef Matty Matheson who took the mic.
“I just want to thank restaurants as a whole, hospitality as a whole,” he began, before getting a big old kiss on the lips from costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach. “I just love restaurants so much, the good, the bad, it’s rough. We’re all broken inside and every single day we gotta show up and cook and make people feel good by eating something and sitting at a table. It’s really beautiful.”
Recognizing the whole cast and crew, he went on to applaud how they’re able to “make people feel good or filled with anxiety or triggered,” before getting a lot of laughs from the audience.
“But this is really amazing, it’s beautiful. It’s hard work, we don’t see the sun for three months, we shoot on a soundstage,” he said, before he started getting the alert to wrap it up. With that, Ebon reminded him to also thank their network, FX, as he began to shout his own kids’ names as well.
It was an entertaining way to end the night, as the show and Succession took home the final awards.
