Dwayne Johnson is not on board with anyone comparing the successes of “Black Adam” and “Black Panther.”
November was no doubt a fulfilling month for superhero lovers as two highly-anticipated superhero-themed movies — “Black Adam” and “Black Panther” — were in theaters. However, with both record-making projects coming from competitors, DC Comics and Marvel Comics, a comparison seems almost inevitable.
Nevertheless, Johnson, the star of “Black Adam,” believes that doesn’t have to be the case.
Dwayne Johnson Loves Competing, But Not When It’s ‘Black Adam’ Vs ‘Black Panther’
Over the weekend, the entertainment media website IGN shared on Twitter a post comparing the box office success of both movies. Alongside a poster of The Rock in his “Black Adam” suit and Letitia Wright dressed as the “Black Panther,” the publication wrote:
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has earned over $400 million at the global box office, making it the most profitable superhero film to be released this fall. Black Adam, which came out in October, has earned $353 million at the global box office.
Unfortunately, Johnson wasn’t appreciative of the comparison and immediately shut it down with a swift yet graceful response. “😂 What a neutral post. I love competing, but @IGN you guys are in the biz with us there’s no competition,” he began his statement.
He continued, “with the established global brand of Black Panther compared to Black Adam & JSA who a year ago no one even heard of. No need to knock us, we’re new babies and have to grow 😊.”
Some fans agreed with the “Jumanji” star’s perspective, with one user writing, “Exactly. Proper comparison should be with Shang-Chi or Eternals as nobody knew about them either until last year. And Black Adam is performing just like these 2 MCU films.”
While it might look as though the 50-year-old actor is jealous of MCU’s impressive success, Johnson had long ago shut down the naysayers last week when he officially congratulated the “Black Panther” team for having the biggest opening ever for the month of November.

‘Black Adam’ Spent Two Weeks Atop Box Office
After making its premiere in the third week of October, DC’s Anti-hero movie had an explosive opening week, grossing $67 million domestically and over $142 million worldwide, making it The Rock’s biggest opening ever in his more than two-decade career.
The superhero had the best first Monday and weekday of any film this Fall, making $4.5 million, but didn’t stop its success in just the first week. As The Blast reported, riding on the wave of success into the second opening week, “Black Adam” bagged the No. 1 Box Office spot again.
The DC Universe project brought in another $27.4 million in earnings for week 2 and reached $250 million worldwide for its global box office take. With “Black Adam” in its fifth week, it has grossed $366 million worldwide, tying with another DC Comics project, “Shazam.”
‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Dominates Box Office
The second sequel to Marvel’s “Black Panther” entered its opening weekend triumphantly, bringing in an estimated $330 million in global earnings for its first weekend of release.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” brought in an estimated $181 million at the domestic box office for its opening weekend, which includes $28 million from early Thursday previews. The highly-anticipated movie was initially expected to bring in an estimated $175 million for its opening weekend but clearly surpassed expectations.
For its second week, the 30th feature installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continued its reign grossing $67.3 million between Friday and Sunday, pushing its global box office earnings to $546.3 million, with $288 million in North America. With the pace at it “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is going, there is no doubt it is going to break more records.
