Jason Momoa’s character in A Minecraft Movie, ‘The Garbage Man,’ could be greatly inspired by Dr Disrespect according to fans of the two-time.
A Minecraft Movie has dominated the box office, crossing the $500M mark despite reviews, such as Dexerto’s giving it a mere 1/5.
The movie features a strong cast led by Jack Black as Steve, but it’s Jason Momoa’s character that has some fans suspecting that he could be a nod to banned Twitch streamer turned YouTuber Dr Disrespect.
And they have a pretty compelling case, when you add up all the evidence and similarities between the two.
Is Jason Momoa’s ‘Garbage Man’ character based on Dr Disrespect?
Dr Disrespect viewers who watched The Minecraft Movie have pointed out several major comparisons between Doc and Jason Momoa’s Minecraft character.
For one, and perhaps the most obvious, is their appearance. Both Guy Beahm’s Dr Disrespect persona and Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison wear outlandish outfits, have wild haircuts and even use similar sunglasses.
While Doc drives a red Lamborghini, Garbage Man drives a red Pontiac Firebird.
Still not convinced? Get this: Garbageman is known for being a video game world champion in 1989. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Dr Disrespect has made being the 1993-1994 Blockbuster video game world champion a huge part of his personality.
“There is absolutely no way Garbage Man isn’t at least somewhat based off Dr Disrespect,” one viewer commented.
“The 1989 gaming championship, pit viper sunglasses, long hair with facial hair, cocky attitude, one liners and sometimes spoke Spanish. Definitely felt like they were inspired by Doc,” said another.
“If someone involved in this production told me this character wasn’t inspired by The Doc, I think I’d have a hard time believing them,” echoed someone else.
While this is technically just a theory and hasn’t been confirmed, it should be noted that the reason for Dr Disrespect’s Twitch ban (inappropriately messaging a minor) wasn’t revealed until the summer of 2024, a few months after principal photography had already concluded.
However, given the controversy, we may never see anyone involved in the making of the film confirm this theory, even if fans are standing by it.
