Dakota Johnson has reportedly made Sony angry with her continuous public digs at Madame Web. The Marvel film was released last month and has not done well at the box office. A source has revealed how people on Sony are questioning her star power after she failed to take responsibility for the film’s failure. Keep scrolling for more.
The film also stars Sydney Sweeney, who poked fun at the film’s box office failure in her SNL monologue. However, the organization is not offended by Sweeney‘s take but by how Dakota has been dragging the Marvel movie publicly. The actress has been in the news lately for her negative remarks about the film and her engagement with the Coldplay star Chris Martin.
An insider revealed to Daily Mail that Madame Web producers and Sony are infuriated with Dakota Johnson’s behavior after the film’s failure. The source said, “Lots of people at Sony are questioning her star power, and how she reacted to this failure will likely come back to haunt her.” The source clarified that the makers are okay with Sydney Sweeney’s playful joke at the SNL but aren’t laughing over Dakota’s comments.
They added, “But producers and Sony aren’t laughing over Dakota’s continued dragging of how she sees the fallout of Madame Web and how she isn’t taking any responsibility for its lackluster results.” The insider explained, “Not every movie is going to work, but a lot of hard work is put towards even bad movies, and for your star to s**t on it is a bad look.”
They also pointed out that if the situations were reversed and Madame Web had done well at the box office, Dakota Johnson would be talking about sequels and praise herself over the film’s success.
Previously, in an interview with Bustle, Dakota Johnson implied that she had already predicted the fate of Madame Web. Not only that, Johnson said that she would probably never do anything like it again. She said, “I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now.” She explained it was like when you signed on to something, and it became a completely different thing while making the movie. In one instance, she admitted not seeing the film even after its release.
Madame Web’s domestic opening is $15.33 million, and the global collection is $93.21 million. The Marvel movie was released in the theatres on February 14, 2024.
