While it hasn’t even been a full month since the release of Madame Web, the stars of the project are already comfortable with making fun of the movie.

During a recent feature interview, Johnson was brutally honest about her experience, saying that she’ll “probably never do anything like it again” and that she “understands” why the movie got “ripped to shreds.”

“It was definitely an experience for me to make that movie. I had never done anything like it before. I probably will never do anything like it again because I don’t make sense in that world. And I know that now,” Johnson said in an interview with Bustle.

“But sometimes in this industry, you sign on to something, and it’s one thing and then as you’re making it, it becomes a completely different thing, and you’re like, Wait, what? But it was a real learning experience, and of course it’s not nice to be a part of something that’s ripped to shreds, but I can’t say that I don’t understand.”

Johnson isn’t the only Madame Web cast member to already turn on the film, as Sydney Sweeney also poked fun at it during her opening monologue while hosting Saturday Night Live.

“You might have seen me in Anyone But You or Euphoria... You definitely did not see me in Madame Web,” Sweeney joked on SNL.

Madame Web, which also featured Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Emma Roberts, Adam Scot, and Mike Epps, grossed just $90 million at the global box office and currently has a 13% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Madame Web is simply the latest of Sony’s Spider-Man spinoffs that have completely vexed critics and audiences alike, as the reactions to the two Venom movies and Morbius have been largely similar. Venom, however, has actually been a financial success, which is why a third installment will be released later this year.

In addition to Madame Web and Venom 3, 2024 will also see the release of Kraven the Hunter, the latest addition to “Sony’s Spider-Man Universe,” which began with the release of Venom in 2018.

The latest time audiences saw Tom Hardy’s Venom was in the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is a Marvel Studios movie and not a Sony Pictures movie.
