Cristin Milioti has joined the cast of HBO Max’s upcoming The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, Deadline reports.
The Made for Love actress will star opposite Colin Farrell as Sofia Falcone, the daughter of John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone. With her father out of the picture, the series will chronicle Sofia and The Penguin as they wrestle for control of Gotham City.
The character of Sofia Falcone made her live-action debut in the series Gotham, where she was played by Crystal Reed.
While plot details for the series remain scarce, we can expect a similar tone to The Batman, with that film’s director Matt Reeves on board as an executive producer. Variety reported earlier this month that the series will enter production early next year, and will be set just one week after the conclusion of The Batman.
“It starts about a week after The Batman ends,” revealed Farrell. “So, Gotham is still, somewhat, underwater. I read the first script of the first episode and it opens up on my feet splashing through the water in Falcone’s office. Even that alone, when I read it, I was like, ‘Oh, Jesus!’” Farrell praised the script for the episode as “so well-written,” and described showrunner Lauren LeFranc as a “formidable” creative force.
Milioti most recently appeared in the Peacock series The Resort, and starred opposite Andy Samberg in the 2020 time travel comedy Palm Springs.
