The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina needed backup last week when they were called to remove a 12-foot alligator on a local road that was lunging at passing cars. Who do the cops call when they’re outmatch? Firemen, of course.
So a crew from the Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue showed up to assist the sheriff’s department in the removal of Jurassic creature from the road. Afterward, they called out the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook in a message about the alligator removal.
The Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue wrote on Facebook “at roughly 1 a.m. Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, NC requested assistance to mitigate a bit of a traffic issue. This angry interloper was laying in the middle of the road and would lunge at passing motorists. Deciding that a 12 foot dragon was a bit outside what they could handle solo, they requested our assistance.”
Fire Rescue joked that they weren’t brave enoough to attempt to weigh the massive alligator. Writing “This extra large fella was estimated to be roughly 12 feet long, and we weren’t brave enough to attempt a weigh in….”
After spraying the gator with their fire hose to get it out of the road, they wrote “With a gentle shower deployed to encourage a retreat, the gator finally decided he was done with civilization for the time being and finally moved on back into his more natural habitat. A quick pack up and crews were back in service and cleared the roadway.”
You just KNOW the fellas are going to bring this up at the annual softball game for the next 50 years. Anytime things don’t go the Fire Rescue’s way they’ll bust out the ‘fellas, remember when you couldn’t handle a lil ol’ wild animal?!?’
Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged needing help, also in a Facebook post, and thanks Fire rescue for their work.
To a lot of people, this is a reminder that there are alligators in North Carolina. This incident occurred in Brunswick over the border from S.C. Be careful out there!
