Following recent backlash about her decision to get her own cut of It Ends With Us commissioned without the knowledge of the movie’s director, reports indicate that Blake Lively also tried to make some crucial decisions regarding Deadpool & Wolverine.
In a movie chock full of cameos from the former 20th Century Fox X-Men universe, Blake Lively apparently tried to engineer one more, as Halle Berry revealed in an interview that Lively asked her if she’d reprise her role as Storm in the film. While Berry liked the idea and agreed, Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds didn’t seem to express any interest in the idea as he never reached out to the Academy Award-winning actress.
“Blake [Lively] asked me one time — I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show — and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me,” Berry said in an interview with ComicBook while promoting her new Netflix movie The Union.
Lively has been facing increasing scrutiny in recent weeks for a litany of reasons, such as her flippant response to an interviewer’s question about domestic abuse survivors (It Ends With Us‘ central theme is domestic abuse), her past decision to get married on a plantation, her beef with director Justin Baldoni, and past interviews clips that see her displaying “mean girl” behavior.
Reynolds’ wife did have her own role in Deadpool & Wolverine, as she appeared in the film as Lady Deadpool, one of many Deadpool variants to feature in the film’s third act.
What’s been happening to Lively in recent weeks is reminiscent of what Jennifer Lopez has experienced this year, as a tidal wave of negative PR and ill will has seemingly arisen out of nowhere, causing a recontextualization of her past behavior.
Deadpool & Wolverine, which is now playing it theaters, has grossed over $1 billion at the global box office thus far. Lively’s It Ends With Us has also been a financial success, grossing over $100 million at the box office after just a week in theaters (against a $25 million budget).
