McDermott lifts heavy weights and loves the mental and physical benefits she experiences with her workouts. “I’m never gonna be perfect, I’m not a professional,” she says. “But I LOVE weight training so much. This is a huge part of my life and I won’t hide it because I have had mean comments in the past!!! I tell everyone I meet to give it a go and try and stick with it. It’s so worth it… I can’t even explain the feeling it gives me!! When I walk out of that gym after hip thrusting over double my own body weight, I feel so powerful, strong and on top of the world!!

McDermott refuses to compare herself to others when it comes to exercise, preferring to focus on being her best self. “Never compare yourself to someone else and the weight they can lift,” she says. “We are different, we all have different strengths. To prevent injury and be the best version of ourselves in the gym, we need to leave our ego well and truly at the door! Do what feels comfortable to you.”

While McDermott would like to have a family one day, right now she refuses to put pressure on herself. “My career is my child at the moment,” she says. “I’m in this nice position at the moment where I have a lot of babies around me, and I can get my baby fix. When I was younger, I was like, ‘I’m going to have babies by the time I’m 25, I’m going to be married’. I genuinely thought that for myself, I always thought I can’t wait to be a mum, and now that time has come, my priorities have shifted. I don’t have the time, capacity or want to be a parent at all at the moment. I know it’ll come one day but I’m not rushing it, you know?”

McDermott pays attention to how much fiber she gets from her diet. “Fiber is so important, and so many of us don’t get enough of it. Especially when we eat takeaways and fast food, so much of the time these foods are incredibly low in fiber,” she says. “Now, we all love a takeaway and beige foods😂 but I personally like to make sure I’m getting enough fiber through other means. I need a lot of fiber in my diet so this kind of thing is an every day staple for me. But for others, fiber intake may just be something to consider 🤍 I made this fiber rich smoothie using super green powder (I use one from @nuzest_europe ) , fiber powder, banana, berries and almond milk 🤍.”

McDermott loves delicious seafood, especially fish such as sea bass. “Fish is the number one source of omega-3 fatty acids,” says Julia Zumpano, RD, LD. “Just to make it more interesting, fish provide two types of omega-3 fatty acids that our bodies need called EPA and DHA. “Omega-3 improves cardiovascular health at a dosage between 1-4 grams each day. It also lowers the risk of death for people with cardiovascular disease and abnormal heart rhythms.”
