Cooking YouTuber Old’s Cool Kevmo, someone who’s earned over 1.3 million subscribers with his videos, revealed that he won the fight against stage 4 cancer.
He’s been making content through his fight against the disease, with him documenting his work as a chef for a sorority house. Kevmo won over the hearts of viewers with his simple yet delicious-looking meals, with many of his newer viewers not even knowing he was being treated for cancer.
Though he was suffering from the illness, the YouTuber didn’t make it a core part of his content or try to clickbait with it. He just kept releasing cooking videos and underwent treatment in his free time, wearing a shirt about fighting the disease every once and making infrequent health updates.
Now, 18 months after his initial diagnosis and following prognosis, he revealed that he’s completely cancer-free.
Old’s Cool Kevmo wins against cancer
Old’s Cool Kevmo revealed in a health update that he was diagnosed with metastatic cancer, a type of cancer where tumors have already spread to other parts of the body. He had stage 4 melanoma, a type of skin cancer, and was given a 30% chance of surviving it.
“My prognosis wasn’t that good. My doctor told me I had a 70% chance of not surviving my cancer. And trust me, that kind of news changes your life,” he explained.
“Last summer, I had a mutation in my cancer that caused a new tumor to start growing. This tumor was eradicated using radiation. I’ve also had over 20 infusions of immunotherapy.”
While it was a rough journey with “ups and downs” for Kev, he revealed that his latest PET scan showed no more metabolic activity and that he’s essentially home free.
He’ll have to maintain his health and get scanned regularly, as people who have been cured of cancer tend to be at an increased risk of getting it again. This isn’t even the first time Kev has beaten cancer, with this bout being the return of skin cancer he thought he’d beaten already.
“I was genuinely bummed out when I heard about your cancer, but I am thrilled to hear this news now. Please take care Kevin, and consider taking the advice about lifestyle changes. We need you!”
Kevmo said he beat the disease despite doing “everything wrong”, saying he didn’t eat well and exercise but beat stage 4 cancer regardless. His viewers have encouraged him to start making healthier choices so he can be around and making videos for years to come.
“WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!! Thank you for being such a positive light in our lives!! I’m so happy for you,” said another commenter.
Kevmo closed with this:
“Folks, the power of positivity does wonders. It changed my life and it changed the course of my cancer. In the future, remember, just keep on smiling and keep on trucking.”
