Here’s how Simmons works out, eats, and lives her best life.
Simmons’ favorite workout is strength training. “I love weight training. Weight training is my go-to,” she tells Life & Style. “When I discovered weight training, that’s when my entire transformation began, not only for my mental health but obviously my physical as well. My life has changed so much. I just want to be strong! Like nothing makes me feel more empowered than taking an hour to myself every day in the gym, chucking weights around, and taking that time for myself. You leave the gym on this rush, you just feel so good after a session like that!”
Simmons eats plenty of protein to fuel her energy. “I love starting my morning with oatmeal, it’s a good source of complex carbs in the morning to give me that energy that I need, especially before the gym,” she tells Life & Style. “On top of that, she makes sure to include some source of protein, like scrambled eggs. I love to make a smoothie at home, where you can’t even taste the protein because there’s so much fruit and amazing antioxidants. I just toss in spinach and fruit and pop in one scoop of protein.”
Simmons learned from experience that restrictive diets are not sustainable. “I’m a firm believer in living a healthy lifestyle over dieting,” she tells Forbes. “I’ve tried dieting and failed. I tried dieting again and failed again. It was a never ending cycle. As soon as I realized the importance of living a well-rounded healthy lifestyle, I dropped the diets. Living a healthy lifestyle is so much more than working out, it’s about feeling good on the inside and out. It was an easy transition as fitness and lifestyle go hand-in-hand and one I felt my subscribers needed to see.”
Simmons is thrilled that so many women are trying strength training. “It’s amazing to see the fitness community continue to transform everyday,” she tells Forbes. “There are more and more women building the confidence to go the gym and enter the dreaded weight training zone which in the past, is usually full of men. It’s intimidating and so many women are breaking through that barrier.”
Simmons lives a healthy lifestyle but refuses to obsess about perfection. “I’m all about living a healthy lifestyle, so I believe if you eat 90% healthy in the day, it’s okay to have a chocolate chip cookie at the end of the day,” she tells Life & Style. “You’ve got to have that balance, otherwise you’re just going to go crazy. Mental health is what started my entire fitness journey, and if I ate just protein shakes all day everyday I would lose my mind. It’s all about balance. It’s okay to treat yourself — you have to!”
