SHANIA Twain has opened up about her feelings toward her ex-husband.
The country music star revisited her past in a podcast released on Tuesday.

Shania, 58, spoke to star Jamie Laing on his Great Company podcast, and openly spoke about her family and personal life.
Jamie noted, “You’ve had to deal with forgiveness in your life. You know, there is your ex-husband, who – from what I understand – had an affair with one of your great friends.
“And you had to forgive and move one. And that’s a hard thing to do, and I know people listening right now probably find it hard to forgive, so what advice would you give to them?”
Jamie was referring to Shania’s ex-husband Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who had an affair with her then-best friend.

“Okay, so this is a good one because we’re talking about letting go… Forgiveness is in the family of letting go. But forgiveness, more specifically for me anyway, is not about forgetting, necessarily. It’s about understanding the other person, and that might mean that they’re, you know, wrong.
“Maybe you believe forever that whatever they did was wrong. Or maybe you believe that… My father’s a better example, okay, because this is someone that I totally forgive,” Shania responded, referring to her stepdad.
“But I understand that he wasn’t well, that you don’t act certain ways unless there’s something wrong with you, there’s something wrong with your stability.
“So, I don’t hate him for his problems, I feel bad that he had those problems… So, it’s very hard to hate or not be able to forgive somebody that you believe.”
The Canadian star concluded, “He’s a human being that deserves empathy and understanding. I think we all do, you know…
“So, do I hate my ex-husband for making a mistake? No. It’s his mistake, not my mistake. So sad for him that he made such a grave mistake that he has to live with. And I don’t know what that is, but it’s not… that’s not my weight.”

Even beyond Mutt’s cheating, Shania’s relationship became even more complicated.
Shania’s marriage to the rock music producer began in 1993, and in 2001 they welcomed their only son, Eja.
Things derailed in 2008, when Mutt asked a blindsided Shania for a divorce.
The celebrity turned to Marie-Anne Thiébaud for advice, and to see if she knew anything Shania didn’t.

Shania and Mutt welcomed a son, Eja. Shortly after Eja’s birth, they met and befriended married couple Marie-Anne and Frédéric Thiébaud in Switzerland, with Shania even hiring Marie-Anne as an assistant in running her home.
2008
Mutt surprised Shania by asking for a divorce, leading Shania to ask Marie-Anne if she’d noticed any strange behavior from him. Marie-Anne reassured Shania that nothing strange seemed to be going on.
Soon after, Shania learned that Marie-Anne and Mutt had been having an affair.
2010
Shania’s divorce was finalized, and the star was supported by Marie-Anne’s ex Frédéric – who found out about the affair before her – throughout the difficult time.
2011
Shania and Frédéric got married.
Shania and Marie-Anne had met in Switzerland shortly after the birth of Eja, and Shania quickly employed Marie-Anne as an assistant as their close friendship developed.
Marie-Anne claimed she had no intel to share with Shania, but the latter was soon told that Marie-Anne was having an affair with Mutt.
After learning the news, Marie-Anne’s husband Frédéric Thiébaud helped Shania process what had happened to them both.
“I did discover the affair with my wife and Mutt. I said, ‘Guys, now you have to tell [Shania]. This is ridiculous. You just owe her that,'” Frédéric revealed to Oprah after the events, according to the Mirror.
The two soon fell in love, and married in 2011 after Shania’s divorce from Mutt was finalized in 2010.
