“I don’t even like the word diet. I just try to eat healthily,” Samia dished to Express. Smoothies are one of her favorite things. “I like fruity ones,” she said, adding that her husband, Sylvain Longchambon “will do one with oats, soya milk, dried berries, nuts and seeds.”
Samia encourages regular exercise. “I should go to the gym more and the fact that Sylvain is a personal trainer… well, it’s ridiculous I don’t utilise him more. I do planks and squats if I can’t find time for anything else. I just want to stay toned,” she told Express.
Lucky for Samia, her husband is an athlete. After welcoming her second child, the ice dancer helped her get into shape. “Sylvain came up with an exercise plan as I haven’t got a clue. He’s got me in shape for my Corrie comeback. What I really like is that because he’s a trained skater and athlete, he has different ways of training you,” she said. “Sylvain never pushes me too much. If I don’t want to do it, I don’t do it. But I always do feel better when I exercise.”
Samia explained to Good To that they “eat quite healthily as a family – but we’re not ‘boring healthy’. We have takeouts, we love a good pizza, but as a rule we eat well and watch the sugar intake and stuff. We don’t eat much red meat and if I do buy it, I try to buy organic and free range,” she said.
Samia has been dealing with anxiety since she was a kid. “Obviously I went to the doctors when I was 11 with it. I’ve never spoken about it before but I have had different forms of therapy over the years,” she told The Mirror in 2019. It got so bad in 2013, while she was competing on Dancing on Ice, her anxiety was so crippling she couldn’t eat. “My first week of Dancing on Ice, I weighed just under seven stone. I couldn’t eat anything,” she said on a podcast. “Sylvain was giving me doughnuts for a bit of sugar because my anxiety was so bad.”
