Today, Rhino has announced the latest chapter in the career-spanning archival series centered around master lyricist Robert Hunter’s work and in celebration of Tiger Rose’s 50th anniversary. Hunter’s sophomore contribution will receive a deluxe reissue due on March 28. Listen to the 2025 edition of the LP title track below.
Following his initial LP, Tales of the Great Rum Runners, the impending reissued set offers a comprehensive exploration of Hunter’s solo work, showcasing the Grateful Dead lyricist’s vast musical repertoire.
The Tiger Rose (50th Anniversary Editions) has been meticulously remastered from the original analog tapes by Grammy-winning engineer, David Glasser, using Plangent Processes for tape restoration and speed correction, ensuring the highest quality for the audience.
Hunter’s second album, initially released in March 1975, represented his continual work with members of the Grateful Dead, including Jerry Garcia, who produced and contributed to the set, as well as backbeat Mickey Hart and songstress Donna Jean Godchaux.
“Complex and inviting, the world of Tiger Rose overflows with Hunter’s lyrical signatures, painting new corners of the already wide landscape he’d begun to map with the Dead. There are stacks of simple and beguiling images (‘Dance A Hole’), cosmic advice (‘One Thing To Try’), dispatches from mystical landscapes (‘Rose Of Sharon’), and folkloric characters (‘Wild Bill’),” writes Jesse Jarnow in the Deluxe Edition liner notes.
According to the press release, the 2-CD Deluxe Edition features a newly remastered rendition of the original album alongside nine previously unreleased alternative takes on LP tracks that showcase Hunter’s malleable, kaleidoscopic artistry.
