King Charles gave a rare update on his cancer journey during an engagement last week.

The monarch spoke about his health during a visit to Bradford, England, while in conversation with florist Safeena Khan.

Khan said that Charles told her “I’d like to think I’m on the better side,” and gave her a “thumbs up” during an inquiry about his health, according to The Telegraph.

“He asked me how I was, and I asked him how he was,” Khan also relayed to the outlet. “There were some pleasantries towards the end, but it was a lovely conversation.”

Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February of last year.

While not much is publicly known about the extent of the king’s condition, Buckingham Palace revealed in late March that Charles was briefly hospitalized.

The palace said in a statement at the time that the monarch was canceling engagements after experiencing “temporary side effects” due to a cancer-related treatment.

“His majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow’s diary program will also be rescheduled,” the palace said. “His majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

Aside from Charles’ brief hospitalization, there was increased attention on the monarch’s health after his youngest son, Prince Harry, gave an emotional interview to BBC.

During the sit-down, the Duke of Sussex revealed the extent of his strained relationship with the king, and how it’s affected his own knowledge of his father’s health.

“I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” Harry said in early May.
