In a viral video, a Florida-based TikToker says she is officially retiring her Apple Watch after it left her wrist with large red scratches.
She begins the video by staring into the camera and zooming in on a large red mark on her wrist before declaring she will no longer use the watch.
“I don’t even know how the f— I’m gonna clean that without frying my f—— watch, bro,” Isabella (@iamisabelita3) says as she shows the back of her watch, which is cracked where one would normally connect a wireless charger.
“That’s my flesh right there,” she adds, pointing to a small red part inside a crack. “Crazy, yup,” she concludes.
‘BABY, COME TO THE GARMIN SIDE!’
In the comments section, viewers questioned what happened, while others speculated. Some shared advice or similar experiences with their Apple Watches. Others suggested Isabella switch smartwatch brands, particularly to Garmin.
User Lexsis Bethea said, “Hey girl call apple and make a claim. My watch had blisters on both wrist and I made a claim and they paid me however much I spent on the watch $570+. … Get your coins.”
A second viewer said, “The batteries explode after awhile. Happened to me twice.”
Another wrote, “It was cracked and she kept using it. Eventually it was overheating and it burned her. It didn’t explode.”
How Did This Happen?
In a follow-up video, Isabella explains that she was working underneath her car, and she believes she may have cracked the watch as she was shimmying to adjust herself. She later felt some irritation on her wrist but assumed it was a bug bite, as she had others that were bothering her. When she looked at her wrist and saw a red spot, she says she removed the watch and discovered the large scratches.
She suggests Apple Watch users wear a silicone cover, though it’s unclear how that would’ve helped in her case, as Apple Watch covers leave the part that cracked on her watch exposed.
How Can I Protect The Back Of My Apple Watch From Cracking?
You can purchase a cover specifically designed to protect the back of the case. Indeed, Amazon sells screen protectors that come with round shields meant specifically for the part of the Apple Watch that Isabella cracked.
Can I File A Claim If I Accidentally Crack The Back Of My Apple Watch?
According to Apple, “Every Apple Watch comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary technical support. AppleCare+ extends your coverage and includes unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection. Each incident is subject to a service fee of $69 for Apple Watch or $79 for Apple Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Hermès, plus applicable tax.”
If you do not have AppleCare+, you will likely have to pay an out-of-warranty fee to fix your watch. However, if your home insurance policy covers accidental damage to electronics, you may be able to file a claim with your insurer.
