I transformed an old, tatty Ikea Kallax unit into a stunning wardrobe – it’s now my fave furniture & has so much storage

Felicity said they were going to throw the unit away

BUYING furniture can be expensive, especially as children grow older and get bigger.

This is why Felicity, aka @fjhinteriors on TikTok, is getting a lot of praise for what she did for her daughter.

“We turned this old KALLAX unit into a beautiful wardrobe for our daughter Poppy,” Felicity said showing the plain white furniture.

She and her partner began by sanding down the whole unit and took out one of the shelves so they could add in a hanging rail.

“We just took out one it’s just toddler clothing it’ll be quite short,” she explained.

The mum then said they used wood filler to fill in the gaps and holes they didn’t need.

In the caption, she said: “We were going to throw away this nine-year-old KALLAX unit but I’m so glad we didn’t.

“It was one of my favourite pieces of furniture.”

She also picked up some more shelves to put in below where the hanging rail was going to be placed “to make more use of the space.”

“We cut out the door from MDF and a trim to go round that, as well as a bit for around the back” Felicity said.

They then sanded the unit down and caulked the inside before painting an undercoat on the MDF, and cleaning it with sugar soap.

She showed the videos 144k viewers the “absolutely gorgeous” paint she was using called Nougat from Frenchic in their Lazy Range.

She said overall it took two layers of paint (three in some areas) for it to be opaque enough.

She said they brought a barn door from Amazon and a handle from Ikea for the wardrobe’s door.

She added they also “built it up” ever so slightly.

“It’s just perfect [and there’s] so much space,” Felicity said.

The creator said she had been inspired by Kelly Sherbourne aka @do.it.yourself.mum to transform her daughter’s wardrobe.

In the comments, people couldn’t help but gush over the DIYing.
