Spotify users can save on their annual subscription with this simple trick.
A social media influencer has revealed how to save over $70 a year on the music streaming service.
A yearly subscription to Spotify Premium costs $119.88 for an individual plan, and $169.88 for Spotify Premium Duo.
The “Duo” subscription plan allows two users to listen to music ad-free, along with all other Premium features.
However, one content creator has shared an easy loophole to save on an annual subscription for the app.
This workaround can help users save money, as well as cut down on their monthly expenses.
“I refuse to pay monthly for Spotify, or any streaming service for that matter,” user @ohhyoubudget said in a video posted to TikTok.
“Because it’s so much cheaper to pay yearly grabbing the gift card.”
According to the video, purchasing gift cards for subscription services often comes with a discount.
She also claimed to use the same tactic when purchasing a Netflix subscription.
The TikTok user, who is based in Canada, showed a screenshot of her yearly bills, including $99 for a Spotify subscription.
It’s worth noting that Spotify Premium is more expensive on paper in Canada.
A monthly subscription costs $12.69 CAD per month versus $11.99 USD in the US, according to the Spotify website.
With the conversion rate taken into account, the Canadian price is actually cheaper.
However, a gift card for a yearlong subscription costs $99 in both countries.
“I get to enjoy 12 months of ad-free music, podcasts, and audiobooks paying just a flat $99 for the year,” the user said in the video.
“Versus the $172 I would have spent for the year if I opted for the monthly individual plan.
“That’s an extra $73 I don’t have to spend, and it’s one less bill to deal with.”
FAN REACTIONS
Users in the comments shared their experiences using Spotify Premium, with many surprised to learn about the discount.
“This is actually so smart,” said a fan.
“I didn’t even realize this was an option,” wrote another.
“That makes sense because Spotify right now is $15 for premium, that’s $180 a YEAR!” one commenter wrote.
“Yeah let me go to shoppers rn.”
