The Real Housewives of Orange County star Heather Dubrow is sending husband Terry Dubrow a sweet message on his 66th birthday. Dubrow, 55, shared a picture of the pair posing next to a pool, with the reality star wearing black workout gear and a matching hat. “@drdubrow you are my rock, my cheerleader, my best friend and the love of my life ❤️ Wishing you another incredible year ! Happy Birthday Honyi! I am so grateful for you !!!!!” she captioned the post. Here’s how she stays fit, strong, and ageless.
Dubrow loves working out outdoors, but makes sure to protect herself from the sun. “I’ve got an SPF that zips up to here down to the wrist, down to the ankles, to stay away from the sun,” she told The U.S. Sun. “I wear a hat — they make fun of me on the show. If we’re out in the sun, they call it my dolphin training suit. I really don’t put my face in the sun ever, that is a really good thing to do.”
Dubrow and her husband developed the Dubrow Diet, an intermittent fasting regimen that includes plenty of resistant starches (for example, rice, potatoes, or pasta that has been cooked and cooled, which encourages the resistant starch to form). “You always say that abs are cooked in the kitchen,” Dubrow told Us Weekly. “Cause people think that you can eat what you want and work out a lot and get abs. I hate the word fasting because when I think of the word fasting I think of very skinny, tired people that can’t get off the couch. It sounds counterintuitive, but when you eat this way — we call it interval eating because we want you to eat on the diet — when you eat this way, you actually have so much more energy.”
Dubrow has sage advice for women who feel insecure about their looks. “Honestly, I think the beauty advice I would give to my younger self is to not be so hard on yourself,” she told New Beauty. “I would tell myself ‘you look fantastic.’ I remember Terry saying to me 10 years ago, when I was lamenting about the wrinkles around my eyes or my cheeks, whatever it was, and he said to me, ‘in 10 years, if I show you a picture of yourself now, you’re going to be so happy.’ So, I always try to remember that. Even when it’s not all perfect, even when everything isn’t all high and tight, I think about that and try to be grateful for right now.”
Dubrow keeps her beauty routine simple when she isn’t working. “Every single day I moisturize, and every single day I put on sunscreen,” she told OK!. “On camera, I like to wear some sort of fake eyelash, whether it’s a full strip or individual lashes, just a little something to give a punch. I give my eyes a break on normal days. A little clear lip gloss, and a little mascara. I like my lips to always feel moisturized, and a little mascara so I don’t look scary. But my day-to-day makeup could be as easy as mascara and lip gloss, I always wear sunscreen, and I usually wear some kind of light foundation. Not so much for coverage, but to protect my skin.”
Dubrow struggles to style her own hair. “During the season my hair takes so much abuse, so when I’m not working I try to do very little to it,” she told OK!. “I’m a ponytail girl. I rough dry it, which gives it a bump underneath it, then blow-dry the top few layers. If I need to, I’ll flat-iron the top layer. I don’t use a lot of products, but here’s one of my cheap, drugstore picks—L’Oreal Elnett hairspray. You can spray that til the cows come home, and your hair will never get stiff.”
