Gavin Casalegno talks about starring in the new wrestling film ‘Queen of the Ring’

Actor Gavin Casalegno chatted about starring in the new wrestling film “Queen of the Ring” alongside Emily Bett Rickards, which was directed by Ash Avildsen.

Casalegno is known for his starring role as Jeremiah Fisher in the Prime Video coming-of-age TV series “The Summer I Turned Pretty.”

‘Queen of the Ring’ movie

“Queen of the Ring” is based on the book of the same name by Jeff Leen, and the real life story of American professional wrestler Mildred Burke.

The synopsis is: In a time when professional wrestling for women was illegal all over the country, a small town single mother Mildred Burke (Emily Bett Rickards) embraces the danger to change culture as she dominates America’s most masculine sport to become the first million dollar female athlete in history. Casalegno portrays her son Joe Jr.

Taking on the role of Joe Jr.

On playing the son of Mildred Burke, Casalegno he said, “I love my mom so much in real life so to be able to show that onscreen and be her No. 1 supporter is so fun, especially Emily Bett Rickards.”

Speaking of Rickards, he praised the lead actress for being “amazing” in the role of his onscreen wrestler mother

Casalegno also complimented director and screenwriter Ash Avildsen for his exceptional vision, direction, and passion for this project.

On the lessons learned from this screenplay and role, Casalegno reflected, “Joe has some pretty inspirational quotes in there. Sometimes, they will come up in my mind again, or I would hear someone say it and I would say, ‘Oh my gosh, that is such wise advice.”

“All the little quotes that Joe had was pretty fun,” he further admitted.

In this journalist’s review of “Queen of the Ring,” Casalegno was described as Mildred Burke’s “voice of reason” and “biggest quarterback,” and rightfully so.

Stage of his life

On the title of the current chapter of his life, Casalegno revealed, “Renaissance.”

“It would have to do something with travel, and it would have to do something with fashion, so I would go with a renaissance,” he explained.

Casalegno also had great words about photographer Brad Everett Young’s Dream Loud campaign, which helps preserve music and arts programs in schools. “I love Brad. He does such great work,” he exclaimed.

Regarding his definition of the word success, Casalegno remarked, “Success means loving people to the best of your ability! That is ultimately what success is about.”
