A DOCTOR has revealed they now make more money annually through TikTok than from their salary.
The medical professional started exploring the social media platform a few years ago for a vital reason.
Not long after graduating from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2017, Dr. Fran Haydanek, started practicing as a obstetrician-gynecologist (OB/GYN).
Her salary as a physician was set at $300,000, and she took care of patients for a few years before deciding to spend some time creating content through TikTok in 2021.
Dr. Fran was motivated after seeing misinformation online about reproductive health, menopause training, birth control, pregnancy, and several other issues in her area of expertise.
She started creating educational videos to combat the false claims and offered medical recommendations to viewers.

“I started by correcting or giving more insight to those misinformation posts,” said the 37-year-old.
PROFITS RISE
While the goal was never to make money, Dr. Fran starting bringing in some serious cash in 2023 through the TikTok creator fund.
She then tripled that amount by 2024.
Her videos were even performing so well that it began out-earning her salary, providing a unique and profitable side hustle.
“At this point in 2024, I have already made what I will make in my entire year of being a physician,” Dr. Fran explained.
She also made a point to acknowledge that she’s “already privileged with my finances.”
“The extra income has made me feel more secure, because even if I couldn’t do my job, I have a way to earn money.”
Dr. Fran noted that the extra income also wasn’t just nice, but vital as she and her family prepare for the future.
“I have three young children, and a husband who also works as a physician — we have been playing catch-up in our life,” she revealed.
“The extra income has allowed us to have an emergency fund and start saving for our retirement.”
Side hustles and tax implications

Extra income you make from side hustles may need to be reported to the IRS.
If you receive more than $600 in gross payouts from a selling platform like eBay, the site will issue you a Form 1099-K to use in your tax return.
Individuals should calculate their adjusted gross income, taxable earnings, and deductions for the year.
Once they have that, they can use the 1040-ES form to calculate estimated taxes.
“It has also allowed me to take two extra days off a month to spend more time with my kids,” Dr. Fran added.
Some of that money also goes to paying off student loans after 10 years of schooling to become fully qualified.
NEVER QUITTING
Still, for Dr. Fran, the social media success would never sway her from performing her day job as a physician.
She wants her patients to be able to seek out her TikTok posts as a supplemental benefit, and encourages other doctors to use the platforms as a resource for good.
“I feel very strongly about the work that I do, and I feel a real responsibility to be there for my patients,” she emphasized.
“I have worked very hard to get here, and I enjoy the work that I do.”
“The reason I started TikTok is because I want other doctors to know that there is another avenue out there,” Dr. Fran added.
“I want to encourage other doctors that they too can do this, and be resourceful.”
Dr. Fran also isn’t the only expert to bring in a staggering amount of money through a social media side hustle.
A former Ford employee did end up quitting their day job after realizing their side hustle would bring in about $14,200 per month.
Even with $30,000 in debt, a tech company sales representative quit their job after earning $70,000 in several days through a unique gig.
