Young actor Cary Christopher chatted about his 2023 Daytime Emmy nomination for playing Thomas DiMera on the Peacock daytime drama series “Days of Our Lives.”

Margaret Mead once said: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” This quote applies to Cary Christopher.

A 2023 Daytime Emmy nominee

Christopher is nominated for the 2023 Daytime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Younger Performer in a Daytime Drama Series” alongside Eden McCoy (“General Hospital”) and Henry Joseph Samiri (“The Bold and The Beautiful”).

Christopher has been acting since the age of three. Presently, at eight years old, Christopher is one of the youngest actors to ever be nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award. “The Emmy nomination felt great, and it made me feel very very special,” he said.

Playing Thomas DiMera

He portrays Thomas DiMera on the Peacock soap opera “Days of Our Lives.” Thomas is the son of Chad DiMera (played by Billy Flynn), who is struggling with the recent death of his mother Abigail (played by Marci Miller).

On playing Thomas, Christopher said, “I think Thomas is a brave character, and he stands up for himself and his sister. Playing the character is really awesome because I get to see my friend Autumn, who plays Charlotte, when I go to set, and I get to see Billy [Flynn]. It is just a very good experience.”

Working with Billy Flynn and Marci Miller

He had great words about working with fellow three-time Emmy nominee Billy Flynn as his on-screen father, and Marci Miller as his late on-screen mom. “It was very fun. They are both very nice, and they helped me act by being great actors, and they kept the connection going,” he said.

Scenes in his Emmy reel

Christopher’s Emmy reel featured the scenes of Thomas fighting with Chad, and Thomas stating that he “just wants his mom back,” as well as Chad’s subsquent apology to Thomas, and then, they go get frozen yogurt.

Then, Thomas’ tooth falls out, and he is happy there (that shows a different side of his acting compared to the prior emotional scenes). It is followed by a more joyous side, where they are bonding again, and then, he sees Leo (Greg Rikaart), and the longer scene in the precinct.

“I liked working with Greg [Rikaart]. Those scenes were very fun,” Christopher admitted.

Desire to work more with Greg Rikaart and Deidre Hall

Speaking of Greg Rikaart, he shared that he would love to do more scenes with him in the future, and he noted that he would love to someday work with veteran actress Deidre Hall, who plays the iconic Dr. Marlena Evans. “Deidre Hall seems really nice and cool,” he admitted.

On being a part of the Peacock streaming service family, he said, “It feels pretty good now that I am on a streaming service, and people can watch me anytime.”

Other acting projects

Aside from “Days of Our Lives,” Christopher is also known for his acting work in such shows as “9-1-1,” “American Horror Stories,” and “Fuller House.” “I was only on one episode of ‘Fuller House’ and it was really cool,” he said. “Doing ‘American Horror Stories’ was amazing. Danny Trejo was so nice, I wish I could work with him again.”

“‘9-1-1’ was pretty interesting. The scene came out really good but it was one of the hardest scenes I’ve ever done. I had to use a ton of feelings to do it. I was in a water tank and I was very brave for that one,” he added.

Motivations

On his daily motivations as a young actor, he shared, “My father actually inspires me because he is an actor himself, and he taught me how to do it. My dad really inspires me.”

Advice for hopefuls in acting and entertainment

For other young and aspiring actors, he said, “My advice is to just do your best. Listen and have patience. You should like it before you do it. If you like storytelling, you are basically going to love it, because acting is storytelling.”

The digital age

Christopher opened up about being an actor in the digital age, at a time when streaming and technology are so prevalent. “In all honesty, I don’t know any other way,” he said with a sweet laugh.

“I do like binge-watching shows, and I just like it because I can literally watch anything at any time any where. On the computer, on the TV, or on the phone. This is why I like the digital age,” he added.

Alternate career choice

If Christopher weren’t an actor, he would be a singer because he liked singing, and he would work for a car company or make his own cars because he likes cars as well. “My favorite car is a 2013 dark blue Toyota Prius,” he said.

Success

On his definition of the word success, Christopher said, “Success means feeling proud because you have accomplished something, and happiness.”

Thanks the fans

For his dedicated daytime fans and supporters, Christopher concluded, “I would love to thank them for supporting me since the beginning, and I want to say ‘thank you’ to all of them. If I could, I would literally try to go to every single one of them in person and say ‘thank you very much’ to them.”
