Ever since Angie Harmon started doing hot yoga to help with symptoms of menopause, she’s become hooked on the practice—and it’s definitely working for both her, inside and out. Harmon, 51, shared a picture of herself wearing black leggings and a purple tank top, sitting cross-legged on a mat while flexing some impressive biceps. “Hot yoga is…. HOT! 🔥👏🏼💪🏼 #blessed #grateful #yoga #heat,” she captioned the post. Here’s how the Rizzoli & Isles star maintains her health, fitness, and wellness.
Harmon is fully enjoying the relaxation that comes with age and doesn’t put pressure on herself to always be on the go. “I think the beauty of being in my fifties is that I definitely have those days where I don’t feel like getting out of bed,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m exhausted. I just want to lay there and read a magazine about fashion or decorating and that’s it. I’ll get up and make my daughter’s lunch and get her to school and do the whole thing and blah, blah, blah. But I feel like I’m coming back home and it’s one or two things, either laying down or working out. Whichever way the scale tips that day, that’s where I go and I don’t feel bad about it.”
Harmon always starts her day with coffee and keeps protein bars and bananas on hand for a snack. “I can’t do anything before coffee,” she told Viva Magazine. “She also re-energizes with daily vitamin and mineral supplements. “I have a full pharmacy in my trailer: brain support supplements that help with memory, acidophilus, garlic extract for overall health, hair, skin and nail supplements—I’m surprised I still have hair after what it goes through.”
Harmon is mindful about the body descriptive terms she uses with her daughters. “When the girls were little, we never said words like ‘skinny’ or ‘fat.’ We always said ‘healthy’ or ‘in shape.’ Now that they’re older, it’s TikTok and everyone’s in bikinis and twerking,” she told Charlotte Magazine. “That’s been a tough one, letting them know they don’t need to get validation from pictures or images you post of yourself out there.”
Harmon loves really spicy food over sweets. “I eat really healthy and two of my daughters do too—the other is working on it,” she told Viva Magazine. “As for me, sweets are not my thing—I love spicy food. If it’s not on fire, it’s not hot enough. One of my favorite dishes was a Vietnamese Pho soup made with chilies. It was incredible. I’d even have that for breakfast.”
Harmon switched up her workouts after going through the menopause. “I started hot yoga… and I mean you literally sweat out of your eyeballs and it is awesome,” she told PEOPLE. “Hot yoga. I’m telling you, you get in there and you just sweat. I used to be a runner. I used to do all that stuff and I do still, but it just doesn’t do what it used to do to my body… It’s just a StairMaster and hot yoga and three to five pound weights if I’m feeling really good that day. I’ve just become this hot yoga sort of walking woman. I was like, what, how did I get here? But on the other hand, it works, so okay, I’ll do it.”
