Rae is open about her struggles with her skin. She tells Byrdie, “Since moving to L.A. and getting a little older, my skin has changed so much. I get cystic acne and breakouts when it’s close to that time of the month for me, and now I have to do a lot more.” However, Rae gets advice to help with this, and other problems, from a very special source. “I started asking my friends who I noticed dealt with the same problems as me. Sometimes they can help more than you think!”

Rae tells Byrdie that once she noticed her skin changing, she had to make changes to her skincare routine. She says that she cut out certain products that she previously used. “I cut out using serums and oils in my skincare routine. I used to use a lot of those types of products, but realized there were too many products on my face. I was layering so many products at once, especially when I was putting makeup on top. It was too much buildup for my skin.”

Being in the public eye can be difficult on your mental health. Luckily, Rae tells Glamour that her mother gave her great life advice to help her cope with these struggles. “The best lesson I’ve learned from my mother is probably to not be afraid to be who you are because that is simply who you are and don’t let people take that away from you. Just know who you are and stay true to that. I feel like it’s a big trend nowadays, to tell people who they are, what they should be doing, what they should be wearing, what they should look like and what their body should be like. I see videos all the time where it’s like, ‘I don’t like this girl’s outfit at all’ or ‘she should wear something like this.’ NO! You can wear what you wanna wear, and wear what you’re comfortable wearing. No one should tell you what you should or shouldn’t wear or what you look good in. If you feel confident in it, then it doesn’t matter!”

Most social media influencers feel pressure to always be perfect for their followers, or at least appear to be, which is unrealistic and difficult to do. However, Rae tells Glamour that she doesn’t try to always be perfect, and embraces her mistakes. “I think people especially nowadays try and convince everyone that they need to be the same, perfect, great all the time and that no one makes mistakes.”

In her Glamour interview, Rae was asked the best way she responds to haters, specifically misogyny. She answered that she doesn’t pay attention to those people and comments. “The best tips to clap back against misogyny is probably success. Proving that you can do anything you want to do with no limitations!”
