Whether you’re a classical nerd, a lover of the arts, or simply want to indulge in a night of culture, an evening with Yo-Yo Ma might be just what you’re looking for this year.

The world-renowned cellist is celebrated not only for his soulful mastery of the instrument and unforgettable live performances but also for his charmingly human moments — who can forget when he famously left his 1733 Stradivarius cello in a cab (seriously, who hasn’t though)?

Recognized as a child prodigy and distinguished graduate of The Juilliard School, he has achieved iconic status through a genuine desire to connect with his audience. This is reflected most at live shows where Ma exudes relatable warmth and genuine joy through his music to the very back of the hall.

And, if you want to bask in the glow of the 68-year-old legend’s lush arrangements, tickets are available for all 25 of his upcoming concerts.

For those in Massachusetts, you can experience the shimmering sounds of Schumann’s cello concerto in A minor, Op. 129 at Tanglewood’s summer of the Boston Symphony on Sunday, Aug. 18, either in the outdoor theater or on the expansive rolling hills with a picnic any bourgeoisie would be jealous of — don’t forget the candelabra.

Or, on Dec. 3, catch a performance at the cultural jewel of New York, Carnegie Hall, and feel the past and present musical ghosts join you to watch one of the greatest cellists of our time perform Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto in E-flat Major. This masterpiece is filled with angst, yearning, and a desire for an unquenchable thirst for freedom as a repressed Soviet.

Come 2025, Ma will return to the Northeast and pluck his fine strings at Carnegie Hall again on April 24. After that, he has shows lined up at Princeton, NJ’s McCarter Theater on April 26 and Brookville, NY’s Tilles Center Concert Hall on April 27.

For our money, purchasing a ticket to a Yo-Yo Ma performance offers more than just a concert — he provides a realm where the best of us exists, mending the brokenness of our souls, sparking joy, and, most of all, hope — because music unites what words cannot. Ready to be transported to another realm?

We’ve gathered the very best ticket prices to see this legendary cellist and his vigorous North American performance schedule so you can experience the joy of Yo-Yo Ma firsthand.

Yo-Yo Ma new music

On March 15, Yo-Yo Ma released “Beethoven for Three: Symphony No. 4 and Op. 97 ‘Archduke.’”

For nearly 75 minutes, the decorated cellist puts his own spin on the classic works — yo-yo’ing between jaunty and haunting often within the span of moments.

In perhaps the understatement of the year, the music is gorgeous and must be heard three, four, five, 100 times to truly grasp its intricacies.

To hear for yourself, you can listen to the pristine collection here.
