Tom Morello continues to make the most of his time in Europe, joining fellow alt-rock heroes Jane’s Addiction during their show on Tuesday (June 25th) in Cologne, Germany.
The Rage Against the Machine guitarist is in the midst of a festival circuit across the continent, but found time to drop in on Perry Farrell and company for a pair of songs during the band’s headlining performance at the Carlswerk Victoria.

Morello, an outspoken Jane’s fan, made his first onstage cameo for a rendition of “Mountain Song” — the sixth song in the set.
The tune is one of the band’s most recognizable songs (landing at No. 3 on Consequence‘s recent list of the greatest basslines of all time), and adding another axe to the mix certainly didn’t detract from its intensity. Morello looked at home playing alongside Farrell and Dave Navarro, as seen in fan footage of the gig.
After taking his leave, Morello returned to the stage for the evening’s final number, the rhythmic “Chip Away” — this time as an ancillary percussionist pounding away on the toms along with Navarro and Jane’s drummer Stephen Perkins.
Morello heaped high praise on Jane’s Addiction in a 2021 interview, recalling how he once snuck into one of their rehearsals before Nothing’s Shocking had been released.
“They were it,” he told the Tuna on Toast with Stryker podcast. “Because what they did — along with a couple other bands, I’d credit Soundgarden and Living Colour on sort of a short list — is they redeemed hard rock and metal music. All of us who loved hard rock music but were somewhat embarrassed by the devil stuff and the groupie stuff and that, all of a sudden there were bands that were kicking my ass just as hard, just as hard as [Black] Sabbath and AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, but there was like an artistic and intellectual content and a poetic content to it. And so I was all in on Jane’s.”
Jane’s Addiction are wrapping up their European tour in the next couple days, but the band will be back out for a co-headlining North American tour with Love and Rockets beginning in early August (get tickets here).
