Last night, Tedeschi Trucks Band picked up their seven-night residency at the iconic Beacon Theatre in the Upper West Side of New York, following their 50th show at the iconic institution on Monday. The performance came after a three-day pause – following shows on Sept. 29, &. 30 and Oct. 1 & 3 – and saw the world-renowned musical stylings of the huge ensemble equipt with the soulful vocals and guitar of Susan Tedeschi and the masterful slide guitar from Derek Trucks.
Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off the second half of their 11th annual gathering at the Beacon Theatre with “Don’t Drift Away,” immediately tapping into ethereal, lunar energy perfectly paired with the crisp October evening. They continued to showcase each member’s musical ability with “Last Night in the Rain” and fully locking-in with the following by “Ain’t That Something.” Next, Tedeschi led the ensemble 12-person ensemble through the title track of their four-part LP I Am the Moon.
They continued with “Part of Me” and Tedeschi’s song “Looking for Answers.” The band continued with the first cover of the evening Elmore James’ “Done Somebody Wrong.” Trucks then took center stage to shred on “Joyful Noise” from his days with The Derek Trucks Band. Next came “Pasaquan” off the first segment of their project, I Am The Moon: Crescent. The single set performance carried on with Mike Mattison’s “Life is Crazy,” followed by “Learn How to Love” and “Take Me as I am.” A stunning and personal rendition of Derek and the Dominos’ “Anyday” served as the penultimate song of the set, and a cover of Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “That Did It” closed the set. After a very short pause, Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to encore with a cover of Joe Tex’s “Show Me.”
Tedeschi Trucks Band will continue to perform at the Beacon Theatre tonight, Oct. 7 and the following evening, Oct. 8.
