The 2024 Emmys were a night to remember if you happened to work on one of three shows. It wasn’t a winning night for genre series, as the trio of HBO’s Succession, Hulu’s The Bear, and Netflix’s Beef absolutely dominated the ceremony. But those series weren’t the only big winners. The legendary Sir Elton John took home his first Emmy at this 2024 ceremony, and with his win he is now a member of the exclusive EGOT club. And television fans were rewarded with a number of big cast reunions celebrating some of TV’s all-time best shows and stars.
The 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Anthony Edwards, was a long time coming. The Academy delayed the show four months because of the writers and actor strikes of last year. But with both unions now working with fair deals, it was an evening to celebrate the industry. It did by giving Beef five Emmy wins. That was just one shy of both Succession and The Bear, as each show took home six golden statues. All three shows wins included for bst series in their respective categories.

Another big moment came when Elton John (who was not in attendance) won an award for his Disney+ special John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. His win for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) gave him his first Emmy and catapulted him into EGOT status.
The show also included a series of cast reunions that paid tribute to television’s past. Stars of shows such as Cheers, The Sopranos, All in the Family, Grey’s Anatomy, Martin, and Ally McBeal each had their moment to shine on authentic recreations of their shows’ sets. Also, Saturday Night Live legends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler also hosted a “Weekend Update” segment. The iconic Carol Burnett also got in on the fun. And Natasha Lyonne and Tracee Ellis Ross joined host Anderson for a funny homage to the classic I Love Lucy episode “Job Switching.”
We’re not sure anyone, not even the Roy family, could have beef with those casts having a big 2024 Emmy moment, too.
