Steve Earle Announces Expansive 50 Years of Songs and Stories Summer Tour

Steve Earle’s reputation as one of the most insightful and influential singer-songwriters in the history of country, folk and rock has been hard won. This summer, he’ll celebrate his incomparable legacy of powerful music with the 50 Years of Songs and Stories tour, marking the golden anniversary of his beginnings as a writer. From May 25 to August 31, the Americana giant will make 50 stops from sea to shining sea, on top of co-headline dates with Taj Mahal, a tour with Reckless Kelly, and an opening run for Parker McCollum.

Earle will set into his 50 Years of Songs and Stories Tour with a May 25 performance at Decatur, Ala.’s Princess Theater Centre for the Performing Arts. His ensuing journey over heartworn highways will include stops at such prestigious venues as Richmond, Va.’s Tin Pan on May 29 and 30, Buffalo, N.Y.’s Asbury Hall on June 15, Chicago’s Vic Theatre on June 20, Minneapolis’ Uptown Theater on June 26, Houston’s The Heights Theatre on July 17, Dallas’ Dos Equis Pavilion on July 19, Calgary, Alberta’s Calgary Folk Festival on July 26; and four nights at the Egyptian Theatre in Park City, Utah from Aug. 14-17.

“Awhile back I was interviewing John Hiatt on my radio show and we realized that we had known each other for fifty years,” Earle reflected in just the sort of story fans can expect between cuts from throughout his catalog. “I met John in 1975, my first full year in Nashville and it occurred to me that the oldest songs that I still play (there are 3) were written that year. Now, I live to follow creative rabbits down holes and I’m old enough, now, that the idea of legacy comes up now and then, so, I decided that a more or less chronological live songbook might make for an interesting evening of music.”
