Slipknot Rock Madison Square Garden Like It's 1999: Review

Iowa metallers Slipknot recently embarked on their “Here Comes The Pain” tour, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their classic 1999 self-titled album (get tickets here). The outing made its way to New York City for a sold-out show at the world-famous Madison Square Garden on Monday (August 12th).

Swedish melodic death metal unit Orbit Culture kicked off the evening, bringing tracks from their latest full-length LP, Descent, to the Big Apple crowd. They opened the show with the album’s title track, played “From the Inside,” and closed out their set with “Vultures of North.” With fans still trickling into the venue, the mosh pit was already in full swing as the band played songs from their EPs Shaman and The Forgotten, and added “North Star of Nija” from their album Nija to their six-song set.

Knocked Loose were up next, hitting the stage with a powerful 14-song set packed with explosive tracks from their latest album, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To. Their performance included songs like “Blinding Faith,” “Don’t Reach for Me,” “Moss Covers All,” and “Suffocate.” The Garden went wild for the Kentucky hardcore punks, led by vocalist Bryan Garris, who urged the audience to bang their heads and bodyslam their friends. The band’s set also included hard-hitting tracks like “God Knows,” “Counting Worms,” and “Deep in the Willow.” Following their tour with Slipknot, Knocked Loose will embark on their recently announced fall 2024 US headlining tour.

Finally, it was time for Slipknot to take the stage at Madison Square Garden, and the metal masters delivered an unforgettable show featuring only material from their 1999 era. Sporting throwback red jumpsuits and masks, Slipknot kicked off the set with a powerful one-two-three punch of “(sic),” “Eyeless,” and “Wait and Bleed,” sending the packed house into absolute chaos as circle pits erupted and massive cheering and headbanging took over.
