Post Malone kicked off the 2024 Super Bowl festivities with an impassioned performance of “America the Beautiful” at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
The Grammy-winning rapper and singer appeared alongside model and dancer Anjel Piñero, who performed the song in American Sign Language (ASL) on behalf of the National Association of the Deaf. Standing solo with an acoustic guitar in hand, Posty delivered a tasteful version of the song, with reverb-washed vocals and a dreamy pedal steel guitar line.
Speaking about the performance with Zane Lowe earlier this week, Malone revealed that he felt “totally out of [his] depth” compared to the evening’s other performers, and said, “I’m just excited and very, very honored to be able to come out and sing these songs with talented people and all of America. I’m excited. I’m nervous. I’m terrified, but I give it the best I got.” Watch the performance below.
Malone has been exploring his roots side in recent years. In 2022, he joined bluegrass guitarist Billy Strings onstage to cover Johnny Cash’s “Cocaine Blues.” Next, he’s scheduled to appear at the American Western Weekend 2024 in Arlington, Texas on March 9th, and at Stagecoach in Indio, California on April 27th. Malone wasn’t the only artist who participated in the pre-game festivities. R&B artist Andra Day soulfully performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” accompanied in ASL by actor and choreographer Shaheem Sanchez. Country legend Reba McEntire sang “The Star Spangled Banner,” appearing alongside Coda actor Daniel Durant, who signed the National Anthem.
Usher will headline the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime show. The R&B artist will be embarking on his “Past Present Future Tour” (grab tickets here) later this year to celebrate his new album, COMING HOME.
