Normani, 28, revealed that she was looking forward to taking the stage during Sunday’s BET Awards.

She suffered an injury during rehearsals and was not able to take the stage, however.

“I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone believe me,” she began.

“I wanted to get our here and give you guys and update letting you know that while in rehearsals for BET I had a really bad accident and injured myself.

“I am normally good for powering through under any circumstance but unfortunately due to my doctor’s orders, I am just not able to make this performance happen.”

The former Fifth Harmony member continued, “I desperately wanted to give you my best on that stage but performing would delay my healing.

“I have been going through my process and doing my best to make sense of my feelings regarding this. I am devastated and hate feeling like a disappointment to you but I have to focus on recovering at this time.

“There is nothing more that I wanted to do than perform for you and also, get back to doing what fulfills me most – BEING ON STAGE.

“Thank you so much for understanding. Sending my love to BET for giving me and all of the other beautiful black women this opportunity. This is definitely NOT how I envisioned this weekend but best believe I will be championing everyone from home tonight.”

“I’m sorrrrrrrrry guys and I love you so much,” she concluded.

Normani did not share any further details about her injury, but did post a photo of it.

She shared a snap that showed her using crutches to walk.

Her knee was wrapped in a bandage and she had a boot on her foot.

Fifth Harmony Albums

Fifth Harmony was among the most popular girl groups in the world. The band featured Camila Cabello, Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane, and Normani Kordei. They went on indefinite hiatus in March 2018 and never reunited. Here are the albums they released together:

  • Reflection (2015)
  • Fifth Harmony (2017)
  • 7/27 (2016)
  • Better Together (2013)
  • Juntos (2013)

BET BUMMER

Fans flocked to a music-focused online thread to discuss the devastating news.

Several expressed disappointment while others were sympathetic toward Normani.

“Geeze this woman has had it rough lately,” one person posted.

“She cannot catch a break. It must be so frustrating,” another commented.

“Damn this sucks because it was something she needed. Hopefully there are more opportunities for her to perform soon,” another shared.

“No shade if I was Normani after all the whacking she’s been getting for the last 6 years and will continue to get I’d been in a wheelchair on that stage doing f**king kick flips,” a fourth fan wrote.

“A Normani performance would’ve ate. Oh well. Next time,” a fifth posted.

ALBUM ISSUES

News of Normani’s canceled performance comes after the release of her debut solo album, Dopamine.

Fans waited years for the album to come out only for it to underperform in the charts, as noted by Forbes.

Normani’s first full-length solo album debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 91.

The album sold just over 12,000 equivalent units in its first full tracking frame.

Only 2,000 of those were pure purchases, according to Luminate.

With those numbers, Normani’s album cannot reach the Top Album Sales chart, which has only 50 slots.

Her album is the tenth-lowest debut of the week on the Billboard 200.

Normani has had some success as a solo artist.

She earned her first hit in 2018, teaming up with Khalid for Love Lies.

The song landed in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In 2019, she again scored big with Dancing With a Stranger, recorded with Sam Smith, and her own song, Motivation.

The only song on Dopamine to land in the Hot 100 was Wild Side, which features Cardi B.

The song landed at No. 14 in 2021.

This is just the latest in a long string of bad luck.

In May, Normani was mocked and accused of running her own fan account.
